(event will take place throughout City Hall and in the upper parking lot)

Special programs and activities:

  • Safely experience a realistic 8.0 earthquake in the Big Shaker Earthquake Simulator! The Big Shaker is the world’s biggest mobile earthquake simulator and can recreate the intense shaking of an earthquake up to a magnitude of 8.0.
  • Learn about water storage and emergency food options, emergency supply kits, pet preparedness, portable sanitation, and seismically retrofitting your home.
  • TRUCKS! At this event kids get an up-close look at vehicles they see every day in the community – a fire truck, police vehicles, and more!
  • Sand bag demonstration. Learn how to properly and efficiently fill a sand bag and how to stack them to get the most protection against flood waters.
  • Learn how to save a life! Join the Lake Oswego Fire and Police Departments for special hands-only CPR training. Public Safety officials will teach the core skills of CPR and participants will have the opportunity to practice with mannequin Mini Anne.
  • Water Container and Bag Giveaway. To prepare for an emergency, it is recommended that people store one gallon of water per person (and pet) per day for a minimum of 14 days. To help residents meet this goal, the City will be giving away approximately 280 BPA-free 3-gallon water containers (limit of one per Lake Oswego household, while supplies last).  In addition, we are giving away 100 one-gallon soft-sided water bags. Add this one-gallon bag to your emergency kit, and use it to get water from a distribution center in an emergency.
  • Water shut-off demonstration.
  • Portable Emergency Water Distribution Station demonstration.
  • Tackle our Fire Obstacle Course to practice how to safely exit your home during a fire.
  • Learn about LOFD’s free Home Assessment program and what you can do to protect your home from wildfires.
  • Learn how to build and set up a water filtration system.
  • Learn how to communicate with others across the city or beyond with radio! Get a hands-on tutorial on using two-way radios for emergency communications. Lake Oswego Amateur Radio Emergency Service (LO ARES) members will join Lake Oswego Fire to share license-free radio options used in neighborhoods in addition to information on how you can become a licensed operator, if desired.
  • Meet LOPD’s K9 Team(s).
