With dry conditions and low snowpack raising concerns heading into fire season, Barb shared practical tips for homeowners and highlighted ORVOAD’s role in connecting nonprofits and volunteer organizations across the state to help communities prepare, respond, and recover from disasters.
As ORVOAD shared during Wildfire Awareness Month, small actions prevent big fires. Oregon’s 2026 wildfire season is expected to start earlier and last longer, making it important for residents to take action now to protect their homes, families, and communities.
Homeowners can prepare their homes and protect their communities by clearing debris from roofs and gutters, covering vents with metal mesh to block embers, following burn rules and local fire restrictions, maintaining defensible space within 5 feet of structures, keeping lawns lean, clean, and green to reduce ignition risk, and building a go-kit and evacuation plan.
